Queen's Prize Tournament April 18, 2026 Pierson C Queen's Prize Tournament
April 18, 2026

Pierson Community Center
1800 South 55th Street
Kansas City, KS 66106

Queen’s Prize Tournament is one of the big opportunities for the people in our Kingdom to show off the things they make and do. The easiest way to explain it to new members is that it is like an old style science fair where people can display and talk about their latest projects. This means people can walk around and talk to a variety of people working on different things. You can see what they are doing, learn about different areas of the Arts and Sciences being explored in the Kingdom and talk directly to the people doing the exploring.
You will see entries made by people of all ages and all skill levels. Some members of the SCA in Iowa will participate and take a drive down. Queen's Prize is a great first event for new members who would like to learn about history by making and doing, but this year’s event may be a bit too much of a drive for many of our newer members.
This is a one day event. People show up in the morning and the participants will arrange their displays at tables. Other people will walk around and look at the displays and talk to the entrants about their projects. There may be meetings on various topics held throughout the day as well.
There is a lunch inn to provide a simple meal without leaving the site. There will be a court in the late afternoon where announcements, awards and recognitions are presented. The site opens at 8:30 AM and closes at 9:00 PM.
Adult registration is $25, adult member registration is $15, Youth 17 and under is $5.

Calontir Spring Crown Tournament Saturday, April 1 Calontir Spring Crown Tournament
Saturday, April 11, 2024
Memory Lane Events Center
78 Walnut Grove Rd, Eldon, MO 65026

Part of the fun of the Society for Creative Anachronism is recreating the spectacle of royalty. Once every 6 months a tournament is held in the kingdom to decide on the next royalty of Calontir, the area comprising Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri, and the Fayetteville area of Arkansas. The best rattan fighters in the Kingdom gather together and participate in a grand tournament and the winner will become the prince or princess by right of arms with their consort becoming the prince or princess.
These events tend to be grand shows of ceremony and display. People will commonly wear their nicer historic clothing and bring items of heraldic display.
This is a single day event where people arrive in the morning, watch the tournament, attend afternoon court and then leave site in the late afternoon. For those who wish to learn more about the pageantry of the SCA or those who enjoy watching the fighting, this is a great event to check out.
Due to the long drive for many members of the SCA in Iowa, our friends are either likely to plan for a hotel stay or catch the next crown tournament in 6 months time.
The site opens at 9 AM and closes at 9PM with many of the attendees enjoying an evening feast. The feast cost is $15 and there are limited seats available.
Cost of the event is $35 for adults and $25 for adult members. Youth 17 and under get in for free.

Gulf Wars March 14-22, 2026 King's Arrow Ranch, 39 Gulf Wars
March 14-22, 2026
King's Arrow Ranch, 39 King's Hwy, Lumberton, MS 39455

If you are on SCA social media you might see some members of the SCA beginning to talk about some upcoming Wars. Gulf Wars is a foreign war held outside Lumberton Mississippi every year.
As much fun as these events are, they can be a challenge for newer members of the SCA to participate with. Not only are they a Very long drive, but the weather can be challenging and it can be fairly hard to have a week's worth of historic clothing to cover any weather conditions you might face.
It is possible for newer members to participate in foreign wars, but they are often better off to attend local events first and look to attend the wars when they roll around next year or wait for Lilies War in June.
If you are interested in attending a foreign war or any event, then talk to one of your local SCA members. They can help set you up with a list of items you need to work on and help you to establish a realistic timeline so that you can get to the events you want to but also keep the fun in your hobby.

Chieftain's Ball February 28, 2026 The American Cz Chieftain's Ball
February 28, 2026
The American Czech Center, 4690 Lansdowne Ave, St. Louis, MO 63116

Chieftain's Ball, also called the Tournament of Chieftains, is a yearly event held in or near St Louis, MO. This is a single day event. In general people arrive in the morning, Watch the fighting or participate in other activities, take a class or socialize and generally hang out and have fun. There will be a feast in the evening. Some people leave the site in the late afternoon or early evening.
Although this is a long drive for many of our SCA members in Iowa, it is a nice distance for many of our friends in the southeast corner of the state. And for those from Iowa who make a weekend of it there is no end to good restaurants and other diversions to choose from in the St Louis area following the event.
Event registration is $30 for non-members and $20 for members. Youth 17 and under are free. Site opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 9:00 PM.
